Watershed Address

You are part of a watershed. Everyone in the world lives in a watershed.

Your watershed address helps you understand your place on the land within your watershed. It is your place in the natural world or your ecological address.

What is the nearest body of water near your home? To what other body of water does it drain? Next, where does that body of water drain?

Smaller rivers, streams, lakes, or ponds empty into larger and larger bodies of water, which may eventually drain into an ocean.

The slope of the land and gravity cause the water to drain just like in your bathtub or wash basin! That’s why some people call our watershed the St. Croix Basin.

“I live in the St. Croix Watershed, the area that drains into the St. Croix River. We all live in a watershed, even someone in China. Cool!” – Rachel, 5th grader
